Liverpool battled from a goal behind to secure their first victory of pre-season on Saturday, with Suso and Kristoffer Peterson notching in a 2-1 win over Preston North End at Deepdale.

Josh Brownhill scored in the closing seconds of the first half to secure an advantage that the League One side defended strongly, but a fine curling finish by Suso with a quarter of an hour remaining levelled things.

The turnaround was completed when unstoppable build-up work by Jordon Ibe created the chance for Kristoffer Peterson to follow up his strike against Brondby in midweek with the winner today.

Brendan Rodgers handed maiden appearances in Liverpool colours to Rickie Lambert and Emre Can, with the former sporting the No.9 shirt that he had earlier been confirmed as wearing for next season following his transfer from Southampton.

The first goalkeeper worked was Brad Jones and it was a good stop too, punching away a curler from 20 yards out by Joe Garner after Neil Kilkenny had executed a well-timed sliding challenge to snatch possession away from Lucas Leiva.

On 10 minutes, the custodian between the other posts, Jamie Jones, was alert to sweep up as Fabio Borini dashed into space to collect a defence-splitting Lambert pass. The summer signing was then ruled offside when Lucas delivered a similarly incisive ball.

Kilkenny threatened with a long-range dipper that flew narrowly over and Brownhill was close with a speculative strike off the laces that Jones palmed out. Alan Browne nodded wide from a corner too as Preston turned the screw.

Frustratingly, following a bright 20 minutes, midfielder Can was withdrawn as a precaution. Ibe entered the action and Liverpool were quickly denied an opener when David Buchanan blocked a powerful Martin Skrtel header.

Diligent pressing by Ibe provided Lambert with a chance to smash at goal, although the slightly deflected hit was comfortable for Jones. The 18-year-old, a lively substitute, sliced a presentable opportunity wide too.

Lambert looked a certain scorer when Joe Allen won the ball and released Borini with an effective direct pass. The Italian scampered along the left and centred, but Bailey Wright wrapped his leg around the striker to thwart his attempt.

And the hosts promptly attacked in the opposite direction and found the breakthrough. A swinging corner caused confusion inside the penalty box and the ball ultimately fell to Brownhill to force home at the back post.

Jack Robinson and Suso were introduced for the second period - Martin Kelly and Lambert departed - and the Spaniard had a considerable crowd of Kopites on their feet when he drove inside from the right and shaped a left-footer, but he pulled wide.

Rodgers opted for seven more changes shortly after the hour mark and there was nearly reason to celebrate for the Reds. Ibe was the protagonist, using his pace and skill to reach the left corner of the area and swiping right-footed toward the top corner. Just off target.

Suso was having regular joy on the right flank, however, and when the No.30 wandered into space and took Ibe's pass, he dispatched a precise, picture-book effort swinging into the top corner on 74 minutes.

And it wasn't long before Rodgers' now young charges took the lead. More outstanding approach play by the buzzing Ibe was the catalyst for Peterson to side-foot home and earn the travellers a comeback result.
